Thomas Cuomo
August 1, 1946 - March 29, 2021
Thomas Cuomo of Yorktown Heights passed away on March 29, 2021. Thomas was born August 1, 1946 in Furore, Italy to Biagio Cuomo and Raffaela Gentile. Tom is preceded in death by his parents and older brother Antonio Cuomo. He is survived by his wife Gemma, daughter Gemma Meyerson (Mike), son Thomas Cuomo, Brother Pino Cuomo, grandchildren Max, Giuliana and Serafina, and granddog Peppa. In Italy Tom grew up the son of farmers and began working at an early age to help support his family. At 21 he became a member of the Bersagliere, a specialty of the Italian Army’s infantry troops. Tom came to the United States on September 19, 1969. He married Gemma Carozza April 4, 1970 and they lived in Yonkers, NY. In 1976 they moved to Yorktown Heights to raise their family. Tom was the epitome of the “American Dream,” from starting as a dishwasher in an Italian restaurant when he first came to the United States to owning/running Pizza Beat Italian Restaurant in Yonkers, NY with his partners from 1977 to 2015. He was an avid hunter, trap shooter, fisherman and forager of wild mushrooms. When it came to his family and close friends the word “no” did not exist to Tom. In his “retirement” Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden, “relaxing” at his lake house and making espresso for anyone who visited his house. He could also be found shooting trap at Mt Pleasant Sportsman’s Club and playing cards at Italian-American Club of Mahopac. Family and friends will honor Thomas’s life at Yorktown Funeral Home on Thursday April 1, 2021 from 4 to 8pm. A religious service will be held on Friday April 2, 2021 at 10am for family only. In lieu of flowers donations made to Dravet Foundation (www.dravetfoundation.org) in Thomas’s honor would be appreciated.
