May 19, 1933 - April 17, 2019
Rosemary Ranellone (Garrett) of Yorktown Heights passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the age of 85. “Rosie” was born on May 19, 1933 in Yonkers and was raised there with her 4 older siblings, Catherine, Marion, George, and Joan, all of whom predeceased her. On May 5, 1956, she married Carmine Ranellone at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Yonkers. They built their home on Storey Lane in Yonkers where they raised their 4 children. Rosie was very involved in the local community and volunteered at St. Anthony’s Elementary School for many years when her children were in school there. She had a wonderful network of friends in her neighborhood and built fond memories in the 39 years they lived there. They later moved to Hawthorne and finally to Yorktown Heights. One of the most notable traits that Rosie possessed was her sense of humor. She could find the humor in any situation. She always said, “You have two choices: you can laugh, or you can cry,” and she chose to laugh, even when she was not necessarily feeling up to it. As an avid Yankees fan, Rosie spent as much time as possible watching the games, learning new players’ names, questioning the managerial decisions of the coaching staff, and cursing the Red Sox. She also loved to read and never left the house without a book in her purse, just in case. She loved to decorate the house for the holidays, especially Christmas. She displayed an elaborate Christmas village each year and made sure that everyone had a stocking to hang by the fireplace. What mattered most to Rosie was her family. She had 12 grandchildren: Kristen, Darren, Raymond, Marissa, Stephen, Alanna, Caitlyn, Adam, Dustin, Sarah, Austin, and James, and 5 great-grandchildren: Victoria, Isabella, Gabriella, Francesca, and Troy. There was nothing she would not do to make them happy. She also loved the time she spent at the family lake house in Massachusetts. Some of her favorite memories were of the time spent there with her children, nieces, and nephews when they were young.
