Bruce Lowder Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Through winning and losing Oh, the brave never bend And the hero keeps fighting Standing tall in the end We carry the flame For all to see And the fire and the passion Of what we can be -Heros, Meatloaf Bruce W. Lowder 59, of Putnam Valley, NY, died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family, after a yearlong courageous battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Meredith and friend of 43 years, whom he supported in all her passions: horses, harps, photography, martial arts, and medicine, to name a few. He leaves behind his daughter Abby. For Abby, Bruce was a softball coach and personal cheerleader, a stand-in dad to many of Abby's friends, an animal expert, driving buddy, fellow movie-critic, and guidance counselor. Even when he was going through radiation, he proudly helped Abby move into her dorm room at Hamilton College for her freshman year. He leaves behind his son Ben, his best fishing buddy. From the wilderness of Kesagami in Canada, south to the Caribbean Sea, and west to Cabo San Lucas, Bruce and Ben fished them all. He attended every one of Ben's concerts and performances, but he was most proud to sit in Eastman Theatre in Rochester to watch his son play the tuba in the All-State Symphonic Band this past winter. He was also rather chuffed to watch Ben's Filmore Scholarship Finalist performance for Skidmore College where Ben will start as a freshman next fall. Bruce never missed anything Ben or Abby did, be it academic, sports, musicals, chorus, band, martial arts… He gave them something treasured and beautiful; he gave them his presence. He was inordinately proud of both his children, a gentle giant who will be missed by many.
