Annette Polito Tallman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Saturday, July 9th 2022, Annette Polito Tallman of Mohegan Lake died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving children Bob and Maria after a brief but aggressive resurgence of cancer. The oldest of three siblings, John and Frank, she is survived by her children, Robert Tallman and Maria Rudolph (Eric). Born on September 28th, Annette grew up in the Bronx before later moving to Shrub Oak with her young family; she was predeceased by her mother Mary in 1998 and her father John in 2012. Annette valued the close and meaningful friendships she cultivated throughout the years and was grateful to have such wonderful friends in her life. A lifelong educator, Annette turned to the profession as a second act to her life's plan; she was an elementary school educator at PS 105 in the Bronx, and after retiring, became a substitute teacher at Somers Intermediate School where she enjoyed continuing her work with students. As a volunteer with the Shrub Oak Athletic Club (S.O.A.C.), Annette served her community, ranging from sports sign-ups, to gameday concessions, to becoming the Director of Sponsorship. She was honored to serve as the Grand Marshall during the league's baseball opening day parade in the early 2000s. Growing up in the Bronx, Annette, her two brothers and numerous cousins, enjoyed family dinners together each Sunday at their grandmother's. A tight-knit group, Annette and her cousins had each other's backs, loved to laugh and spend time together. Even on opposite sides of the coast as adults, they never lost any of that love and would pick up right where they left off each time they were together. Annette was a survivor and a fighter. After being hospitalized for a week back in 2009, she survived the swine flu. In her life, she survived a disappointing ex-husband, working for the NYC Department of Education (DOE) for decades, and all other matters life threw her way. In the end, she was most happy to survive COVID. Living with strength and grace is a legacy continued by those who paid attention and learned best from Annette. Annette was blessed to watch both her children meet incredible partners, Liz and Eric respectively. One of the great highlights of Annette's life was welcoming two grandchildren, Lianna and Nicholas. Nonni, as her grandbabies would call her, fiercely loved each moment she spent with them. A natural teacher, Nonni seamlessly found ways to nurture the inquisitive mind of her "Lovey", Lianna. Best friends until the end, she and Lianna would spend countless days together exploring nature, catching lightning bugs, and going to the 'stage' for performances. Sleepovers at Nonni's were magic. As a mother, Annette nurtured two strong, smart and empathetic children who will continue to meet the world with the compassion, kindness and fortitude they inherited. They might even continue her tradition of sparking random conversations with strangers in line at stores. Though she will be missed every moment of every day, her family finds comfort knowing she has reunited with her beloved parents. To remember Annette best, please seek out beautiful flowers - hydrangeas were among her favorites - a good laugh with friends or family, or something delicious, maybe a devil dog. Annette was a firm believer that you can find something good in every day; today, we take her approach and remember all the love and good times she brought us.
